This manual will guide you through the learning process and give you practical leadership experience to help you learn many of these skills.  The manual focuses on leadership skills you can learn by serving in various Toastmaster meeting roles and other club experiences. 

The matrix below shows the the different meeting or club roles that fulfill project requirements in the Competent Leadership manual.  Many of the project require multiple roles to be completed for completion of the project.

8 Motivating People
  • Determine your current motivational skills.

  • Identify conditions that motivate people.

Three roles from the following (Note - at least one must be chairing a committee outside of a club meeting environment):

9 Mentoring
  • Determine your current mentoring skills.

  • Identify the steps in being a good mentor.

  • Practice mentoring skills in various club roles

Chose from one of the following roles:

Mentor for a New Member

Member for an Experienced Member

Guidance Committee Member for Someone Working on an HPL Project

10 Team Building
  • Determine your current team-building skills.

  • Identify the steps in building a team.

  • Practice team-building skills while serving in various club roles.

Either serve as both the Toastmaster and General Evaluator in club meetings, or chose to serve in one of the following roles:

Public Relations Campaign Chairman

Club Speech Contest Chairman

Club Special Event Chairman
